Frequently Asked Questions

How does SFN find nannies or housekeepers?
Most of our applicants come in from referral of other applicants that have found employment with families through the agency. If there is a very specific job requirement, we may recruit using publications that circulate through the metropolitan area.

How much money does a nanny or housekeeper generally make?
There are a few factors that influence salary.  For example, the number of children and their ages, the size of the home to be cleaned and the different job duties to be performed. Sometimes there is also cooking and ironing to be done as well as errands to run. In general terms, nannies and housekeepers make between $10.00 to $15.00 per hour.
Please read our
"Compensation, Benefits and Other Issues" page for more information.

What kind of background investigation is done on applicants?
The recruiting process begins with a telephone interview. Only the applicants' successfuly passing the phone interview, are then required to come in for a personal interview. In the personal interview all documentation necessary for a criminal background check is collected, copied and verified. An extensive application is filled out and a personality analysis follows. All work and personal references are thoroughly verified and documented. A national criminal check, drivers license check and social security verification is run once the applicant is being considered for employment. Expanded background checks are also available. All information collected from the agency is made available to the family on  each applicant that is being considered for employment.

How long does the process take for a family interested in hiring a nanny , housekeeper or elder care companion through the agency?
The entire placement process from receipt of the deposit and completed application, usually takes from 2 to 4 weeks depending on your schedule and requirements. Most placements are made within 2 weeks, but it is best to plan 3 to 4 weeks for placement after the interviewing process.

Is there a guarantee?
Yes, SFN offers a 45-day guarantee on your placement. If for a logical reason the match is not working out and SFN is notified in writing within the guarantee period, SFN will send new applicants to fill the position at no further cost. After the guarantee period has expired, we offer a discount on a new placement fee.  However, our number one goal is customer satisfaction.  Replacements will be made a priority.  Keep in mind though, just as with the original placement, it is difficult to estimate just how long it will be to fill the replacement.

Should I sign up with multiple agencies? For a family who is in a hurry to hire an employee, this may sound like a great idea in theory.  One of the biggest drawbacks to this plan is that the most savvy applicants themselves sign up with multiple agencies.  Since we do network with local reputable agencies, it is very possible that you may interview the exact same applicants through the different agencies you are contracting to work with.  It is more sound advise to choose an agency based on the quality of service they offer, rather than spend hundreds of dollars on retainers signing up with different services.
